Officer McCann was fatally injured when his police vehicle overturned and crashed while in pursuit of a speeding truck. In an effort to avoid striking a pedestrian, Officer McCann swerved causing the vehicle to spin around and overturn three times. He suffered a fractured skull and died the next day.

Officer McCann had been with the agency for four years and was survived by his wife and two daughters.
