Officer McCall was shot and killed in Burke County after a man he issued a citation, for keeping two undersized trout, suddenly produced a gun and shot him. Officer McCall managed to return fire and seriously wounded the suspect.

The 60 year-old suspect was convicted of second degree murder and sentenced to 18 years in prison February 19, 1972. He was paroled December 12, 1978.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 38th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg , CA police officer.

Your murderer serving only six years was woefully inadequate.
