Agent Matthews and Sheriff Dave Malcolm, of the Butte County Sheriff's Department, were shot and killed while conducting a roadblock near the town of Spearfish. The officers were shot by an escaped murderer from Minnesota. The suspect was apprehended and executed in the electric chair in 1947.

My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never dimishes respect, and your memory will always be honored and revered. .
