Donald Matejka

Trooper Donald Matejka suffered a fatal heart attack while attempting to subdue a suspect at the scene of a domestic disturbance in Madison County, Nebraska.

He and another trooper had responded to the mobile home just off Highway 81, north of Norfolk, and made contact with a male subject. A struggle ensued when Trooper Matejka attempted to stop the man from leaving the scene. He collapsed during the struggle. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Trooper Matejka had served with the Nebraska Highway Patrol for 30 years. He is survived by his wife and four children.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 22nd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
