Patrolman Joseph Marshall was shot and killed when he and his partner stopped a vehicle whose occupants they recognized as gang members. As Patrolman Marshall approached the two he was shot and killed. His partner was able to return fire and kill the suspects.
Patrolman Marshall had served with the agency for two years. He is buried in Wichita Park Cemetery and Mausoleum, Wichita, Kansas.
