Troope James Marshall suffered a fatal heart attack at the Shelburne Falls Barracks while assisting two local officers book an unruly prisoner.

He had been employed with the Massachusetts State Police for 14 years. He was survived by his wife and three children.

Trooper Marshall, today marks the 48th anniversary of your tragic passing. Thirty-six is much too young and your children were no doubt all very young themselves. I strongly believe that, though you were taken from this world, your spirit stays with all those who loved you and you watch over them to this day as a Guardian Angel.
