Officer Ronald Manley was shot and killed while responding to a holdup alarm on North Illinois Street. Officer Manley was able to shoot and kill one of the suspects, but was fatally wounded by the second suspect. That suspect was convicted of his murder and sentenced to life in prison. He was paroled in December 2003.

Officer Manley had served with the Indianapolis Police Department for five years. He was survived by his wife and three young children.
