Detective Albert Mallen was shot and killed while while serving a narcotics related search warrant in Westville. He was shot in the face with a 12-gauge shotgun while looking around a corner.

The suspect was sentenced to death but died of natural causes while awaiting execution.

Detective Mallen had served with the agency for over 14 years. He was survived by his wife, daughter, two sons, mother, and four sisters.

Well today started out as a regular work day ..when tragedy hi a neighborhood ...it was a house fire in EHT..as i was doing my job i happen to see a young man that resembled my friend..and OMG it was Alby..i have not actually seen him since he was knee high...wow a spitten image....But as you could imagine here is chip off the old block ...lending aid to a neighbor across the street that just lost everything they owned...he opened his door and made them comfortable and rendered aide the best he could....I made my way in to assist the homeowners as i do in my business when i was grosly in aww with Alby...he took me downstairs to show me his bar and his Tiger collection..and all of the sudden his fathers shrine and memorabilia...it was one of the most emotional days i have had in a very long time....but it really made my day and i actually felt the strong presence of Albert today....Just a fine human being ...never did i think my day was going to turn in that direction...as i sit here in my home with my family and i look around ....i makes me sad that Big Al is not there with his family to enjoy all of the gifts i have with my family and not to mention his grandchildren...i could just see him as a grandpop....LOL...thats laugh out loud as my kids have taught me....well just had to leave this on the wall...ps My day has been warm and heartfelt ...thanks to Alby....you have no idea how much this touched me today....and just a funny note .....Could you see Albert today Texting ....OMg That would be a sight......Clyde
