Detective Edward Madden was accidentally shot by a fellow officer during a search for a robbery suspect.

Investigator Madden was mortally wounded while searching a building at 1464 West Olive. Madden and a fellow officer were searching for their suspect when the second officer fired from the front door of the building, at Madden, who was on the second floor. The officer thought he was firing at the suspect. The bullet struck Madden in the neck.

Both investigators were assigned to the Damen Avenue Detective Bureau.

Investigator Edward Madden is survived by his parents, two sisters and three brothers.
