Correctional Officer Mackin and Correctional Officer Charles Wiget were stabbed to death by two inmates during an escape attempt in San Quentin Prison. Both suspects were convicted of the murders and executed in 1958.

Officer Mackin was survived by his wife and four young children.

Mr. & Mrs. Mackin babysat my sister alice and myself, I was 7 years old. I can remember to this day Mr. Mackin sang the song Mona Lisa while he was shaving and to me he was so special. He had a beautiful voice and I have never forgotten him.
I can't believe how many years have passed
