Herbert Long

Patrolman Herbert Long was killed at 25th and 2nd avenues while attempting to arrest a man and a woman on alcohol-related charges.

As the suspects were being placed into custody, the man stepped back and shot Patrolman Long. He was apprehended within hours of the murder.

The suspect was convicted of murder and sentenced to life. He died at the Indiana State Penitentiary in Michigan City on May 10, 1936.

Patrolman Long had served with the Terre Haute Police Department for four years.
