Patrolman James Lonchiadis was shot and killed when he interrupted a man who was trying to steal a motor vehicle. The suspect was apprehended and sentenced to life but was eligible for parole in 2007.

Patrolman Lonchiadis had served with the agency for nine years. He was survived by his son, who later became a member of the Shrewsbury Police Department.
