Officer Leyden was killed in a motorcycle accident while attempting to stop a speeding car. Another car turned in front of him, causing a collision. Officer Leyden was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries two hours later.
Officer Leyden was survived by his parents, sister, and two brothers.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 64th anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be remembered and revered.
