Officer Richard LeFebvre was shot and killed while working a civil disturbance call on California Avenue (modern day Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard).

The Watts Riots had spilled over to Long Beach. Officers responded to the area of California Avenue and New York Avenue regarding subjects throwing bricks at passing cars. A police officers gun was discharged during a scuffle, and struck Officer LeFebvre, killing him.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 48th anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

I pray for the solace of all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever.

This past Fall I addressed the Board of Directors of the LBPOA and asked for their help for preserving the death penalty in California for the 43 cop killers on death row and the other death row killers who murdered 225 innocent children and many other victims. They stood with victims and it will not be forgotten.
