Officer William Lackman was shot and killed by a suspect while investigating a burglary call in an office building at Welsh and Verree Roads. One suspect was shot and killed by other Officers at the scene. Three additional suspects were later arrested and convicted of murder. All three suspects were sentenced to life in prison.

Officer Lackman served in the 7th Police District for 11 years and is survived by his wife, daughter, and a son who was born after Officer Lackman's death.

I remember this like it was yesterday. A sophomore at GWHS and one of the "neighborhood kids", Officer Bill always treated us with respect and in turn, that's how we treated him. I don't live in Philly anymore but I'll never forget Officer Lackman. May he rest in eternal peace.
