Patrolman Kussius died of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

Patrolman Kussius was on motorcycle patrol on the Interboro Parkway, near Queens Boulevard when he was involved in a accident. He was taken to Queens General Hospital where he died four days later from his injuries.

Patrolman Kussius was assigned to the Grand Central Parkway Precinct, the present day Highway 3.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the seventy-first anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
