William F. Konkel

Officer Konkel was struck and killed by a vehicle while directing traffic at the intersection of Oakman Boulevard and Grand River. The driver of the vehicle disregarded Officer Konkel's signals and drove into him and two other citizens. All three were taken to Redford Receiving Hospital where Officer Konkel was pronounced dead.

Officer Konkel had served with the Detroit Police Department for nearly 2 years. He was survived by his wife and three children.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 80th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never dimishes respect, not even 80 years.
