Floyd Alexander Knight

Officer Floyd Knight was shot and killed while on a stakeout of a 7/11 at 810 North Edgefield Avenue in Dallas.

At approximately 10:15 pm., a suspect entered and robbed the store at gunpoint. He forced the clerk into a storeroom and then shot Officer Knight in the head, killing him. The suspect fled with $98. Four days later during a routine traffic stop a passenger in the car was arrested for an unpaid traffic citation. Then it was learned the car was stolen. The store clerk identified the man as the killer.

On September 23, 1969, the suspect, 38, was convicted of murder and sentenced to death. His sentence was commuted to life in 1972.

Officer Knight had been with the Dallas Police Department for two years. He was survived by his expectant wife and daughter. His son was born a few days after he died.
