Patrolman Lawrence Klump was shot and killed when he instructed a group of men to clear the streets and to stop disturbing the peace. One of the men opened fire, striking Patrolman Klump six times. The suspect was sentenced to life.

Patrolman Klump had served with the agency for nearly 10 years. He was survived by his wife, son, and two daughters.

Your heroism and service is honored today as we approach the 86th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer, 82 years after you were killed.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
