Patrol Officer Harry Kier was killed in an accident crash while responding to a fire.

He had been dispatched on the emergency call to a burning gas station when his vehicle struck a patch of ice on the Glenn Highway. His cruiser slid sideways, left the roadway, and struck a light pole before bursting into flames. Several citizens attempted to rescue him from the vehicle but were prevented due to the fire.

Officer Kier had served with the Anchorage Police Department for three years. He is survived by his wife and one child.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 34th anniversary year of your death. I am privileged to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service.

My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace
