Officer Brown and Officer Robert Stefanov were killed when their patrol car struck a utility pole during a pursuit. The officers had noticed a vehicle sitting outside of a closed business and, as they approached it, the vehicle sped off. The suspects entered an intersection against a red light at approximately 75 mph with the officers close behind. When another vehicle entered the intersection the officers attempted to avoid a collision but the patrol car struck the car, overturned, and struck a utility pole. The suspect was later apprehended and sentenced to ten years for involuntary manslaughter.

Officer Brown had served with the agency for 4 years. He was survived by his daughter.

I am so happy this memorial is here. I was trying to find Sally and Ericka after all these years and found you. Bitter sweet. We were childhood friends from the old neighborhood. I can say a sweeter kinder, smarter, gentler soul has not again come into my families life. My family still talks of you and misses you. Your work picture is always on our mantle, we have never forgotten. The loss that night is still so fresh for so many that had the honor to know you. The readers here will know already you are a man that always had the nicest things to say, your humor was infectious and your heart the size of the universe. If you ever needed Mike, he somehow had this 6th sense and knew it....he was on your doorstep with a helping hand. Merry Christmas Michael, we still miss you so much. the muellers
