John I. Kahl

Agent John Kahl was shot and killed while executing a search warrant.

The subject stuck the barrel of a .44 magnum revolver out the crack in the door and pulled the trigger firing one shot. The bullet struck Agent Kahl in the head, killing him instantly. The subject was killed by other officers returning fire.

Agent Kahl had served with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office for 13 years and had previously served with the United States Navy in the Vietnam War. He was survived by his wife and two children.

John, Sr. I met your son the other day at the FBI National Academy. Although you were taken away from him at a very young age, I could tell from our conversation that he hasn't forgotten you and thinks about you and your sacrifice often. In fact, he chose to walk in your shoes and now holds the flame that others so callously ripped from your grip. Your legacy is strong, dedicated and proud.
