I hadn’t heard this story until I stopped to visit my grandfather on my way to the Special Agent academy, and he told me of Einar, my Great Grandfather’s brother, and his untimely passing. Each day at the academy, we took turns telling the story of a downed officer; on my turn, I researched and told the story of Einar. I didn’t know him, but his love for the outdoors and public service have been passed down through generations.
