Duane Curtis Johnson

Police Officer Duane Johnson was shot and killed by a robbery suspect in Chinatown at about 2:00 pm.

Officer Johnson and his partner had responded to the store and were let in by one of the subjects, who was posing as a store employee. When the two officers entered the men immediately opened fire, killing Officer Johnson and wounding his partner.

The shooter was apprehended and sentenced to life.

Officer Johnson was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and had served with the Los Angeles Police Department for three years. He was survived by his wife and daughter.

Before my stroke I would make it a point to go to the LAPD memorial and leave a rose for Ofcr. Johnson. One day I'll make another trip- but not an anniversary of this sad date escapes me. RIP Dewey.
