View all 28 ReflectionsI was only 7 years old in the summer of 1961 when James Jantz died protecting the Sauk Co. community. The events leading up to his death are as vivid today as they were at the time. The names of the 3 men they were trying to capture are embedded in my mind, along with Patrolman Jantz's. We lived in fear for a few days until they were taken into custody. They were captured only a few miles from where we lived. We weren't allow to play outside, kept our doors locked and worried when my dad was alone in the barn milking cows, that they would show up or that they may be hiding in the haymow. James Jantz sacrificed his life protecting us. He will never be forgotten.
