Patrolman Joseph Jankovsky was struck and killed by a car while making a traffic stop on LaGrange Road.

The driver of the car that struck him was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless driving in connection with the incident, but did not serve any jail time as a result.

Patrolman Jankovsky had served with the Countryside Police Department for nine months. He was survived by his wife and two children.

I did not get to meet you, but I've been told so many wonderful things about the man that you were. I just wanted to tell you that you have a wonderful son. He is an unbelievable husband and father. He is strong, faithful, loving, hard working and always puts God first. You also have a terrific granddaughter, Hayley. You would be so proud of both of them. I look forward to the day that we can all be reunited as a family.
