Officer James' body was found a short time later. He had been shot and killed. His killer was apprehended, convicted of murder, and subsequently sentenced to life in prison. He was denied parole in April of 2012. He will be eligible for parole again in April of 2015.

I was a young officer on the Duncan Police Department when Darrell was killed. I remember it well. I have never forgotten that tragic day. Many other officers have passed and join you in heaven, as I will also some day. I continued my law enforcement career on the federal side for the last 29 years. I will always have a special place in my heart for the officers of the Duncan Police Department and the City of Duncan.
