Patrolmen Claudius Irvin and Raymond Chapman were killed in an automobile accident.

As the two officers were responding to a call, a tractor trailer jack-knifed, killing them both instantly.

Patrolman Irvin had served with the Wytheville Police Department for seven years. He is survived by his wife, daughter, and son.
