I had the honor and privilege to work with Dee as patrol deputies in East Los Angeles in 1972 & 1973. Additionally, we became best of friends, and enjoyed vacationing with both our families at the Colorado River. He taught two of my kids to water-ski. I still recall the moment when a mutual deputy friend called me at home the night during the Thanksgiving Weekend. My first reaction, and spontaneous comment when I recognized the voice was "Who got it?" When he responded, "Dee!" It felt like a mule had kicked me in the pit of my stomach.

Dee Hurdle was the consummate partner and friend. Always a gentleman, family man, and a hell-of-a good street cop. There is never a day that goes by when boating, skiing, or family vacations become a topic of conversation, that Dee Hurdle is not remembered. The Good Lord must have needed another great cop to patrol the streets of Heaven when He took Dee from us.
