I had the pleasure of knowing Dee when we went through the Sheriff's Academy in Class 135 in 1967. I was there from the Covina Police Department for training.

I remember the day I heard of Dee's murder and was shocked that one of my classmates I had known was killed so soon after beginning his career with LASO as we called it then.
Dee was a hard working cadet and a memorable person. His passing was a loss to his department and everyone who knew him. I think of him whenever I hear of an officer down or EOW. I was blessed with 30 years in law enforcement without any shooting involvement.

Rest in Peace Deputy Hurdle. You served you community and department with honor!
