Officer Christopher Hughes was shot and killed while attempting to arrest an armed railroad policeman on East 47th Street at 2330 hours.

The railroad policeman was off duty and causing at a garage. During the arrest the suspect shot Officer Hughes twice in the leg and once in the left side. Officer Hughes was able to return fire and wound the suspect in the head. Officer Hughes was transported to Midtown Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds the following day.

Officer Hughes was assigned to the 17th Precinct. He was survived by his mother.

My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
