Sergeant Richard Willson suffered a fatal heart attack following a foot chase and being assaulted. After catching the suspect he was struck in the chest with a crowbar. He returned to headquarters and while doing the arrest paperwork he began to feel sick.

He was escorted to the hospital by another officer, at which time he was transferred to second hospital for more tests. En route to the second hospital he suffered the heart attack at approximately 2:30 am.

Sergeant Willson had served with the agency for just over three years. He was survived by his wife and two children.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 16th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. I pray for the solace of all those who love and miss you for I know both the pain and pride are forever.

Rest In Peace.
