Officer Stephen House was shot and killed while on duty while serving a narcotics search warrant in the residence of a suspected dealer. The homeowner had barricaded himself in his bedroom and when Officer House began to lead the entry into the bedroom by using a noise/flash diversion device, the occupant began firing through the doorway. Officer House was struck in the left shoulder, which was not protected by his protective vest, and the bullet entered his chest cavity.

The suspect was tried and found not guilty.

Officer House was a member of the Emergency Response (SWAT)Team and was survived by his wife and four children.

My dad told me some stories about you in the Albuquerque Police Academy in 1980, he also had some photos of you at the gun range and with other cadets/new officers enjoying some brews on graduation night. He described you as "badass" when talking about your defensive skills/martial arts. He also informed me of this tragedy. Some say a person dies twice, once physcally and 2nd when the last of their friends or family passes on and their name is no longer mentioned. Your legend lives on. God Bless
