Private Hoffer was shot and killed while he and several other officers attempted to arrest an escapee from the Fayette County Jail. While approaching a house the man was in the suspect opened fire from an upstairs window, striking Private Hoffer. The suspect was killed when the officers returned fire. Private Hoffer succumbed to his wounds five days later.
Private Hoffer had been with the agency for almost eight years and was survived by his wife.

My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.
