Officer Hobson was killed in an automobile accident while responding to a disturbance call. During his response a vehicle turned left in front of him causing a collision. His cruiser then slid into a telephone pole on the driver's side door. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene but was later arrested and he plead guilty to misdemeanor vehicular homicide.

Officer Hobson had been with the agency for 8 months. He was survived by his wife, son, and two daughters.
