Constable Hindes was shot and killed after instructing a man to return home. Constable Hindes had encountered the man while on patrol shortly after midnight. The suspect began to argue and then shot Constable Hindes seven times with a .22 caliber handgun. The suspect was arrested and sentenced to life in prison.
Constable Hindes had been with the agency for only six months and had previously served with the Atascosa County Sheriff's Department.
