Deputy Sheriff David Hefner was shot and killed while investigating a domestic violence call.

When Officer Charles Sanders, of the Oregon State Police, arrived he and other officers engaged the suspect in a two-hour gun battle. When Officer Sanders and other officers attempted to enter the suspect’s house, Officer Sanders was shot and killed with a rifle. The suspect then shot and killed himself. Deputy Hefner died one month later from his wound.

Deputy Hefner was a WWII veteran. He was survived by his wife and five children.
