Irving Francis Hayden

Patrolman Irving Hayden was killed in a helicopter accident.

He was assigned to the traffic unit involved in providing traffic reports to local radio stations when the police helicopter suffered an airframe failure and crashed.

Patrolman Hayden had served with the Chicago Police Department for 23 years. He is survived by his wife and three children.

I remember you from my youth. A Scouting event you came to in Elmhurst about a year before your passing.

You were so kind and patient with us kids as we all wanted to meet you and shake your hand.

You are remembered and missed.
