Detective Lewis Hauschild was struck and killed by the driver of a stolen car.
The car crushed Detective Hauschild against a streetcar after he had shot the suspect behind the wheel. The 23-year-old suspect died at the scene.
Detective Hauschild was a United States Army WWI veteran and had served with the East Cleveland Police Department for 21 years. He was survived by his wife, mother, two brothers, and two sisters. One of his brothers served with the Cleveland Police Department.
