Patrolman Carl Hauck was shot and killed when he and another officer chased a group of men into an alley near Gest Street and Harriett Street (now Dalton Avenue). One of the suspects ambushed Officer Hauck and shot him in the back of the head.

The suspect was arrested by found not guilty due to a lack of evidence.

Patrolman Hauck had served with the agency for 1 year.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 102nd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
