Alan Frederick Chick

Officer Alan Chick succumbed to injuries sustained when he was struck by a drunk driver while assisting a stranded motorist five days earlier.

The suspect, who had 22 prior arrests and eight prior DUI convictions, was convicted of intoxicated manslaughter and sentenced to life in prison as a result of Officer Chick's death.

Officer Chick had served with the Fort Worth Police Department for 10 years. He is survived by his wife, daughter, son, parents and brother.

Alan and I were room mates at the University of Texas. I wound up with Dallas PD while he hired on with Ft Worth PD. He was about the best friend you could ever have, a great athlete, and a very good cop. I still think of him often. Never forget.
