Private Gullett was shot and killed while he and his partner responded to a loud music complaint at an apartment at 2910 Markham Lane in Kentland.

The subject invited both officers in to his apartment. He then opened the top of the stereo cabinet, as if he was turning it down, pulled the gun and shot Private Gullett. His partner returned fire, killing the suspect.

Private Gullett was killed two days shy of his one year anniversary with the department. He was survived by his parents, brother, and two sisters.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 43rd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect and your memory will always be honored and revered. I pray for solace for all those who love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Your family is in my heart's embrace and I thank them for sharing their devotion to you through their reflections.

Rest In Peace
