Officer David Guider and Officer Wendell Troyer were killed when their department Hughes 269C helicopter experienced mechanical failure with the main rotor and crashed.
The helicopter crashed into a parking lot and building at 2033 Fruitvale Avenue and burst into flames.
Officer Guider was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and had served with the Oakland Police Department for four years. He was survived by his expectant wife. His father was a retired police chief.
