Special Agent James Grayson was killed in an automobile accident while returning home following an undercover assignment in Columbia, South Carolina. He was found in his vehicle at the bottom of a 25-foot embankment in Charlotte, North Carolina. The vehicle contained suspicious marks which indicated that it was forced off of the roadway.

Agent Grayson was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard. He was survived by his wife and two children.
