Deputy Graves succumbed to injuries sustained two days earlier in a motorcycle accident while on an undercover operation with a motorcycle gang. A vehicle made a left turn in front of his motorcycle at the intersection of Speedway and Alvernon in Tucson, Arizona.

Deputy Graves had infiltrated the gang so deep that he was serving as their war-lord at the time of the accident. His death caused the long-term operation to come to an end.

Deputy Graves had been with the agency for 12 years and was survived by his wife and two children.

I was a schoolmate of Shannon's since preschool. I remember in Preschool, Randy helping build our play structure. It has been 35 years since this memory, but was just recently talking to my mom about Randy and Shannon. My father is a retired police officer and new Randy. We also lived in the same neighborhood as the Graves growing up. Holly, I am sorry you lost your dad so early in life.
