Patrolman Vincent Gillespie was fatally shot at an undetermined place by an unknown assailant whose arrest for murder was recommended by the Coroner. Patrolman Gillespie drove his auto to St. Lukes Hospital where he later died from his wound.

The Coroner's verdict was that it occurred in the discharge of duty as a police officer.

Officer Gillespie was my great uncle, as he was married to one of my grandfather's older sisters. I, of course, had never met him and I would like to know more about his service and death.
