Detective Charles George was shot and killed while searching for a burglary suspect. The man had been identified by articles left behind and Detective George went to his home to arrest him. The suspect was not there so Detective George hid under his front porch to await his return. When the suspect approached he saw the Detective and fled on foot. After losing the suspect Detective George finished his paperwork and clocked out. As he walked home he decided to check a residence for the suspect one last time. As he checked a closet he was shot by the suspect who was hiding in a large box inside of the closet. The suspect then shot and killed himself.

Detective George is buried at Graceland Cemetery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
