Trooper Robert Garrison was killed instantly from a skull fracture he suffered in a traffic accident at about 6:40 pm on State Road 67 in Delaware County.

While responding to a report that a child had been bitten by a dog, Trooper Garrison swerved to avoid hitting a vehicle in front of him and struck a tow truck. The car, occupied by numerous teenagers, had stopped to make a left-hand turn.

Trooper Garrison had served with the Indiana State Police for over four years and was assigned to the Pendleton post. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War and served as a military policeman. Trooper Garrison was survived by his wife, two sons, daughter and parents.
