Officer Gargadennec was shot and killed when he approached a suspicious man sitting in a vehicle in front of a residence. As he approached the man yelled out to stop or he'll shoot. The man then got out of the vehicle and fired at Officer Gargadennec, striking him. Although mortally wounded he was able to return fire and strike the suspect. While on the ground two of the suspect's friends ran to teh scene from the house. Even in great pain, Officer Gargadennec took both suspects into custody and called for backup. The three suspects were later identified as a trio who had committed several high profile robberies. Officer Gargadennec succumbed to his injuries the following day.

Officer Gargadennec had been with the agency for 15 years.
