Officer Gable was stabbed to death while attempting to arrest a man for public drunkeness. The man slit Officer Gable's throat and then started kicking him as he lay on the ground. The man was apprehended and convicted of Officer Gable's murder.

Stephen Gable was my Grandfather a man I never got to meet.
The Drunk that killed him only stayed 7 years in prison! Steve was a Father of 8 kids my Mom Mary was 11 years old when he was killed. In her class in school was the daughter of the man who killed her Father. It is sad that this happened to my Grandfather. My Grandmother raise the last three children at home by her self. She and the kids pulled cotton and she did laundry to make a living... RIP Steve Gable... Will meet you on the other side...
