Trooper Booth was shot and killed while responding to a call of a man waving a gun north of Stratford, Texas. When Trooper Booth arrived at the scene he became engaged in a struggle with the suspect. The man was able to gain control of Trooper Booth's service weapon and shot him several times.
The suspect was charged with Trooper Booth's murder and sentenced to life in prison in 1994.
Trooper Booth had served with the agency for 6 years. He was survived by his wife and two sons.
